The Beginning And Ending Of My Modeling Career

Some of you may be asking what in the world happened to this site - where is everybody? As it turns out, I've been settling in to a new job lately and it has taken me away from writing in any form. Here, however, is a copy of an email I sent to my wife today. It shows that even though I'm not putting together any stories, I am doing some fun new stuff.

Today's adventure? Model clothing for our new catalog. My new company uses employees as models whenever it is appropriate and today was my turn. I'm in the habit recently of agreeing to these opportunities just for the sake of having something to laugh about later. And a software coder playing the part of a model is absolutely worth laughing about.

This particular shoot was for a promotion of free t-shirts. Place an order over a certain dollar value and you, too, can dress like the web team.

Here's how I recapped it for my wife:

Ok, so, wow. I'm terribly uncomfortable as a model. I can't fake a
smile, and when I'm uncomfortable, I don't smile naturally. I won't be
surprised if my face is not a part of this promotion.

But...

The guy shoots several pictures of me in my shirt, and the girl
tells me to do things like hitch my thumbs to the logo like I'm all that,
or put my arms up like I'm flexing, and whatever because I'm a model and
that's how I'm going to progress in my modeling career.

But then the guy says, "You're going to be the star of this one so I want
to take a few extras." So they shot a bunch of me in my t-shirt beneath a
lab coat pulling the coat apart at the chest like Superman in a phone
booth. No faces for that one. Just a well-defined application
developer's chest.

That's the one I bet I get printed in the promotion. Random t-shirt in a
lab coat but no chipped-tooth awkward half-eyed smile. I can only hope.

Holy crap if they print the one with my arms up like I'm flexing, my brother
will never let me live it down.
