Vacation Countdown

Much of the StoryImprov team… well, that being Dan and myself… are meandering our way through summer vacations, leaving plotlines undiscovered and stories unfinished.

Feel free to write us a chapter or two while we are away. But please, don’t give Smith a bullwhip or fedora.

In the meantime, on fisherking’s recommendation, I picked up Neal Stephenson’s Quicksilver for my summer read. All 900 pages of it. Small print. I’ll give you full book report in 2010, which is when I expect to turn the last page. It is labeled as volume 1 of the Baroque Cycle but the inset suggests that it is the follow-up to Cryptonomicon. Fisherking, am I hamstringing myself by starting here? Is this going to be like when I saw Jason Bourne III without seeing I or II, or when I tried to get into Lost at the beginning of season IV (and was thoroughly confused when the ghost hobbit showed up at the asylum)? My local library didn’t have any other Stephenson options, but I will happily go with dragonrose’s James Rollins suggestion if Quicksilver is a bad idea. I don’t get to the beach for a few days yet, so I still have a chance to make the change.

As for StoryImprov, I hope to submit a chapter or two before leaving, but you know how those days prior to vacation go. Regardless of if I can get some writing in or not, I look forward to seeing your work when I get back.
