Once Upon A Time - #2

We've had several new visitors lately, but very few contributors. Here is another game to make quick contributions easy. As before, I'll give you a starting point and you carry the story forward with the next sentence or two (or three).

Bonus points again if you can place the reference. I was working at a large client yesterday with many shared iTunes libraries. This one took me way back.

Here is your starting sentence:

Her world collapsed early Sunday morning. She got up from the kitchen table, folded the newspaper, and silenced the radio.

The silence offered cold relief. For instead of hiding the pain behind a muting veil, the thin, icy edge of torment cut her down at last.

She heard the muffled sound of a car engine approaching, then shutting off. She dropped her head into her hands and cried quietly. The doorbell rang.
